OSMAQUA® Desalinators The use of brackish underground aquifers, or even seawater, as water resources is possible nowadays thanks to the progress and development of the technology for desalination with reverse osmosis membranes. In APR Greenhouses & Technology we stock the range of Osmaqua® units for the treatment of water by means of desalination technologies and have much experience and contrasted results in the field of agriculture, industry and potabilization. Waters with different concentrations (brine, seawater, etc.), salts in solution (boron, silica, bicarbonates, nitrates, etc.) and origin (wells, surface water, seawater, etc.) can be employed with optimum results and with maximum economic viability. Our technical department working in desalination and water treatment can offer you the best solution. Osmaqua® desalination equipment: In a natural process, two solutions with different salt concentrations and separated by a semi-permeable membrane tend to balance, that with the lower concentration diluting that with the higher concentration. The increase in level produced on the side of the solution of higher concentration is termed osmotic pressure. In practice, by insufflating pressure into a solution with dissolved salts against a semi-permeable membrane, the salts can be concentrated on one side of the membrane, and the solvent obtained on the other. An aromatic polyamide is the material most used in the production of membranes for desalination. The process requires the conditioning of the solution to be treated as regards solids in suspension, as this is a possible cause of mineral and/or biological fouling of the membranes. An Osmaqua® desalination equipment is a system that has all the elements necessary for desalinating water from a certain source and with a certain physical and chemical composition, the objective being to obtain an output in accordance with the process in which it will be employed with the highest possible conversion rate. Among the applications of the Osmaqua® desalination equipments are: The exploitation of brackish resources, allowing the range of possible crops to be enlarged. Soil-less cultivation systems obtain substantial improvements by using water with low salt content through reducing the drainage rate, and it is even possible to reuse the drainage water. The use of waters with phytotoxic contents of certain chemical elements such as boron. Conditioning of water with a high level of hardness, nanofiltration membrane systems can be used that have a lower rejection of salts than the conventional arrangements. With appropriate pre-treatment and post-treatment, the technique of desalination with reverse osmosis membrane allows drinking water to be obtained from any source, given the degree of filtration that this process involves, by rejecting all types of germs and virus present in the water. In combination with other demineralization processes, it can be used to obtain demineralized water for use in processes in different industrial processes (foodstuffs, electronics, chemicals, etc.).
An Osmaqua® desalination equipment includes: Physical and chemical pre-treatment units: in function of the source of the water and its level of fouling, the water to be treated can require biological control treatments, decantation of sands, coagulation / flocculation of colloids, injection of dispersants, correction of the pH, microfiltration, etc. High-pressure pumping equipment: element intended to deliver the required flow and pressure. Membranes and pressure chests: the reverse osmosis membranes are housed in pressure tubes or boxes. Depending on the saline concentration, the working pressure of a desalination plant varies, there being models of membranes and pressure tubes for brackish water and seawater. The productivity, the rejection of salts and the working pressure are parameters used when selecting a membrane for a certain process. Sweeping system: after a planned or forced stoppage it is convenient to eject the concentrate from the system. Measurement and control elements: the flows and the pressures are monitored for proper tracking of the process operation as well as the pH, the electrical conductivity and the water temperature. Rack in IA or with epoxy painting. Suitable pipes for inhibiting corrosion. Electrification installation: electric switchboards, starters with automatic protection of the pumping sets, electric lines and conduits, electric starters with speed variator, etc.
